Hail hits South West

Hail has hit the Bunbury area as other parts before rain was dumped in the metro area this afternoon.

The rain gauge at Perth Airport recorded 7.8mm between 9am and 4.30pm. The temperature in the city reached 19C maximum up from 14.3C overnight.

More rough weather is expected overnight before an expected maximum of 16C and more rain tomorrow.

Squally conditions with isolated thunderstorms and small hail are likely in the Perth Metropolitan area during Sunday afternoon and evening.

If this weather system continues to develop and moves north then the Severe Weather Warning may be extended to the Perth Metropolitan area.

SOUTH WEST, LOWER WEST AND GREAT SOUTHERN

If you live in an area southwest of a line from Bunbury to Narrogin to Hyden to Salmon Gums to Israelite Bay get ready now for the bad weather coming today.

This includes people in, near or between Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Narrogin, Katanning, Albany and Esperance and surrounding areas.

This is unusual weather that could cause damage to homes and make travel dangerous.

As at 11.08am on 21 June 2015 the Bureau of Meteorology advises a deep low and cold front developing to the southwest of the state together with a pool of cold and unstable air are likely to cause widespread damaging winds to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in damage to homes and property.

In isolated areas south of a line from Busselton to Hopetoun, DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause significant damage or destruction to homes and property.

Damaging winds are currently occurring about the Southwest Capes and will extend east during Sunday afternoon, reaching Albany from about 3pm and Esperance early Monday morning.

Conditions will ease from the west during Monday.

Isolated squally thunderstorms and small hail are likely in the warning area.

Dangerous surf conditions which could cause some beach erosion are also likely.

Tides will be higher than normal along the south coast between Augusta and Israelite Bay.

A wind gust of 94 kilometres per hour was reported from Cape Leeuwin at 10.45 am.

The worst weather is expected along coastal parts between Margaret River and Esperance.

• Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
• Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
• Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
• Move vehicles under cover
• Boat owners should securely moor their boats
• Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
• If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property

GREAT SOUTHERN, GOLDFIELDS MIDLANDS AND MIDWEST GASCOYNE

Get ready now for bad weather in parts of the Great Southern, Goldfields Midlands and Midwest Gascoyne

If you live in an area south of a line from Israelite Bay to Balladonia to Menzies to Meekatharra to Carnegie to Forrest to Eucla you need to get ready now for the bad weather coming today.

This includes people in Meekatharra and Eucla and surrounding areas.

As at 10.58am on 21 June 2015 the Bureau of Meteorology advises the passage of a trough will produce thunderstorms and gusty northwest winds across the region during Sunday ahead of a cooler, gusty westerly change overnight.

Strong northwest winds are currently occurring throughout the warning area. Gusts may reach 100 kilometres per hour which could cause damage to homes and property.

Winds will ease from the west during the day but showers and isolated thunderstorms will then move through the area. Damaging winds and moderate rainfall may occur with thunderstorms.

Areas of blowing dust are possible in the South Interior and eastern parts of the Eucla District prior to the rain commencing.
