Tweet unites bloggers to share Perth

Tweet Perth, the Twitter account that aggregates local news and lifestyle tweets, has teamed up with 40 top WA bloggers to launch its own content platform.

Adam Barrell, founder of Tweet Perth and digital account director at Haystac, toldM&M this week the new website would give the bloggers access to a bigger audience and create new opportunities for marketers to engage with “a highly engaged, localised audience”.

With almost 60,000 followers, Mr Barrell said Tweet Perth had become one of the State’s “most influential and trusted” Twitter accounts and was a hub for local Twitter activity, providing followers with the latest news, photographs, trending topics, and helping crowd-source answers to questions about everything from restaurants to travel.

“So it seemed a natural progression to then revamp the website, approach local bloggers, put the word out and see if they wanted to join us and have their content shared on Tweet Perth,” Mr Barrell said.

“While we’re passionate about talking about Perth, we’ve now got 40 local bloggers who are passionate about talking about their specialities and what excites them — whether it’s food, fashion, health and fitness, travel.

“They’re providing content they would already put on their blog onto our website, which we then share out to our network as well, giving them full credit.”

Bloggers including Foodie Hub, Ryan Northover, Foodie Cravings and Emma Payne are taking part. Mr Barrell said once the site had a good level of traffic and engagement, he would introduce sponsored blogs and content, creating new opportunities for WA marketers.

“Our main goal is for public and marketing firms to come to us to talk about events or products, brands, whatever it’s going to be,” he said. “If it’s something that’s more closely aligned to some of the bloggers we have engaged ... we can put a package behind it that would include sending some tweets, raising awareness and engaging one of our bloggers to cover it.”

The site, www.tweetperth.com.au, launched two weeks ago. Mr Barrell plans to roll out similar platforms to Tweet Perth across other major Australian markets.
