South West warning for wild weather

South West warning for wild weather

People in the State's south are being urged to prepare for wild weather today, with some areas expected to be hit by winds exceeding 125km/h.

Damaging winds are likely to develop between 8am and 2pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology said parts of the South West, Lower South West and Great Southern regions would be affected by a weather system likely to cause widespread damaging winds of up to 100km/h that could result in damage to property.

In isolated areas, dangerous gusts of more than 125km/h may cause significant damage or destruction.

Abnormally high tides that could cause sea water flooding of low-lying areas are forecast for the South West.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a weather warning at 5.45am today for people who live in an area south-west of a line from Busselton to Katanning to Bremer Bay.

This includes people around Albany, Bridgetown, Margaret River and Busselton.

The Weather Bureau said that although the weather was not unusual for this time of year, it could damage homes and make travel dangerous.
