Creasey to host WA Screen Awards

Joel Creasey has joked he will be bringing along his head shot and resume to the WA Screen Awards in the hope of snagging a role.

The Applecross-raised comedian, right, is taking Australia by storm with his latest stand-up show The Hurricane but will return home later this month to host the 27th annual awards, which celebrates WA screen culture.

Creasey, who is now based in Melbourne, said he could not wait to head back to Perth for the ceremony on June 29 at the Heath Ledger Theatre.

“I’m going to approach hosting the night in the way Meryl Streep approaches an acceptance speech — confident, breathy and a little smug,” the 24-year-old quipped.

“Western Australians are brilliant, creative people and I can’t wait to be part of a night honouring their work. I might even spray- paint my entire body gold so I look like an Oscar.”

After the awards, Creasey will travel to Canada for the Montreal Comedy Festival and will then head to Scotland for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Tickets for the WA Screen Awards go on sale next Tuesday on ticketek.com.au. Nominees will be announced on Monday.
