Pedestrian injured as car hits wall

A four-wheel drive has ploughed into properties and injured a pedestrian in Joondanna this morning.

The BMW was travelling south on Waterloo Street about 8.45pm, when it struck a Holden Astra travelling west on Roberts Street.

Witnesses alleged that the BMW driver ran a stop sign.

The four-wheel drive left the road, hit a male pedestrian and narrowly missed a tree before smashing through an asbestos fence on Waterloo Street.

It then uprooted a tree and crashed into two brick walls, coming to rest metres from a house.

An elderly Waterloo Street resident said she was getting changed in her front room when the BMW hit her asbestos fence.

She said if the four-wheel drive had travelled another five metres to the right, she would have been in trouble.

“She must have been going very quickly,” the resident said.

Both drivers avoided serious injury, but the 40-year-old male pedestrian was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

The female driver of the Holden Astra said the man was sitting on the ground in shock after the crash.

She said he appeared to have a groin injury and blood coming out of his mouth.

The driver of the BMW, believed to be a woman in her 30s or 40s, was crying at the scene.

Police are investigating.
