US tourist charged over crash deaths

A 60-year-old American tourist has been charged over the deaths of a woman and a toddler in a crash in Bedfordale last month.

A woman, 60, and a two-year-old girl died in the head-on collision between a Nissan Pulsar carrying three US tourists and a Mitsubishi Magna, carrying three adults and a toddler.

The crash happened on Albany Highway on Friday, March 20, at about 10.45am.

The woman died at the scene, while the toddler was flown to hospital but died from her injuries.

Five other people were injured in the crash.

The male Nissan driver, from Massachusetts in the US, has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.


He is due to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on April 24.


MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old Gosnells man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a 43-year-old taxi driver in a three-car crash in Kelmscott last month.

Salman Alyassin was stopped at lights in his taxi on Albany Highway in Kelmscott at about 1:30pm on March 1 when it was hit from behind by a red Mazda, police will allege.

His vehicle became airborne and landed on a footpath several metres away, witnesses claimed.

Mr Alyassin received critical injuries and died in hospital.

The alleged driver of the Mazda is due to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on April 21.
