Police 'find sword' during traffic stop

A traffic stop on a car in Butler yesterday resulted in a Kingsley man being charged with weapon and drug charges.

Clarkson Local Policing Team officers were conducting a traffic stop of a Mitsubishi Lancer on Covington Promenade in the afternoon when they allegedly saw a sword next to the driver’s seat.

The incident happened near Coniston Parkway about 4.15pm.

The car was searched and the man was taken to a police station, where he was also searched.

Police allege they found about 8g of a crystal substance believed to be methylamphetamine.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug (methylamphetamine), possessing a controlled weapon and having no authority to drive.

He is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrate’s Court on April 24.
