Cash for school security

The Federal Government is reassuring parents that it has no intelligence of a "particular threat" to schools after announcing funding to bolster security at schools judged at high risk of terrorist attack or ethnic violence or slurs.

Four WA schools are among 54 nationally that will share more than $16.6 million under the Government's rebadged Schools Security program.

The schools for the first time have the option of using the money to hire security guards.

They can also use it for infrastructure such as closed circuit TV, fences and lighting.

The Government has not named the schools but they include 11 public schools, 17 Jewish schools, 15 Islamic schools and 11 independent schools.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said the Government had pledged to help schools at risk of attack, harassment or violence caused by racial or religious intolerance.
