Failed AFL recruit turned methylamphetamine addict Dayle Garlett is behind bars after pleading guilty to burglary and stealing.

The former footballer, who recently vowed to “make a change” after it emerged that a serious drug addiction was the reason he quit his contract with AFL premiers Hawthorn, was remanded in custody after facing Fremantle Magistrates Court this morning.

During his first court appearance over the burglary allegation, Garlett admitted to breaking into a Spearwood home during the day on Monday, February 16.

He stole jewellery and other items but police allege none of the stolen property has been recovered.

Police arrested Garlett in Midland yesterday afternoon after investigating the break-in.

The Magistrate has requested a pre-sentencing report ahead of Garlett’s next appearance in court in March.
