At least four people needed medical attention after they were struck by lightning during yesterday’s electrical storm.

The first storm of 2015 broke Perth’s 61-day dry spell, but it also sparked dozens of spot fires across the city, closed the domestic airport, and left nearly 30,000 homes and businesses without power.

Weather watchers were treated to a spectacular lightning show which lasted throughout the morning and resumed in the afternoon.

But three Perth people and a Collie woman in her 40s will likely never feel the same way about lightning after they were struck and taken to hospital.

Paramedics were first called to City Beach about 11.30am after two people were struck by lightning on a building site.

It is believed both victims were working on the same site.

They were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for treatment and observation.

Just over an hour later, a man in his 30s was hit by lightning in Wandi in Perth’s southern suburbs.
He was taken to Rockingham Hospital and discharged later yesterday afternoon.

Finally, a Collie woman was admitted to Collie Hospital after she was struck by lightning about 4.15pm.

It is understood no one was seriously hurt.
