CBH shutdown after worker's death

CBH has closed its entire grain network after a worker died while unloading a truck at the company’s Northampton terminal.

The male worker was crushed under steel poles which he had been unloading from the truck during maintenance work. He died at the scene at about 11.30am.

CBH confirmed it had closed its Northampton site after the worker’s death and at 4pm shutdown its entire network until 6am tomorrow.

“CBH wants to take time to allow employees and contractors the opportunity to absorb this information and to refocus on safety,” the company said in a statement.

A Worksafe investigator visited the site this afternoon and a statement from CBH said its staff were liaising with local authorities and the Coroner’s office.

Police were understood to have been still trying to contact the worker’s relatives this evening.

The death is the second work place death within the company in the past 12 months.

In December, a 64-year-old truck driver died at CBH’s Kwinana port terminal when he was hit by a trailer while carting grain.
