Trees down, power out in wild weather

Thousands of homes are without power, trees are down and houses have been damaged after early morning wild weather.

Power lines are down in Booragoon, Myaree and Hilton.

There are also reports of damage to property in Hilton, where the roof of a house has reportedly blown on to a road.

Trees are down and there has been damage to houses.

Several trees fell on to the road in Melville but have been cleared.

Power lines are also down in O’Connor on Murphy Street.

Western Power says some homes in surrounding suburbs, including Melville, are without power.

Information on the utility’s website says power is expected to be restored by 8.30am.

Main Roads has also warned of a crash westbound on Canning Highway, near South Terrace, in Como, where a crash is blocking the middle of the intersection.

Police are at the scene directing traffic.

A Western Power spokesman confirmed 11,000 homes were without power after strong winds swept through Perth’s southern suburbs.

The most affected areas, he said, were Willetton, Hilton, O’Connor, Booragoon and Beaconsfield.

Traffic lights are out at the corner of Canning Highway and South Terrace in Como.

Several trees and branches are down around the Thornlie Avenue area in Thornlie.
