Star chef Blumenthal escapes to Australia

There may be no other food event on the planet quite like Margaret River's Gourmet Escape, according to Heston Blumenthal.

The superstar chef has embraced Australia and its produce and will be back for the event on November 21-23.

"I loved it," he said. "It's such a beautiful area."

Blumenthal was a star attraction at Gourmet Escape last year. He withdrew from the inaugural event in 2012 after two of his chefs were killed in a traffic accident in Hong Kong.

This year he will be accompanied by chefs Ashley Palmer-Watts from his London restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Jonny Lake from his Bray restaurant The Fat Duck.

Blumenthal has been back and forth to Australia this year promoting his signature food range for Coles and to record a week of episodes for reality cooking show MasterChef Australia.

He will be spending more time Down Under when The Fat Duck relocates to Crown Melbourne for six months next year.

"I've been there (Australia) four or five times this year," Blumenthal said. "I think I have spent three months this year and it will be even longer next year."
