It's cacciatore sausages at 10 paces as home cooks get set to battle it out for the crown of WA's best dried Italian sausage.

But these are no ordinary cooks.

At a time when most people have been retired for 25 years or more, these septuagenarians and octogenarians aim to bring their "A game" to Perth Arena where the winner will be crowned on July 15.

TV personality Antonio Carluccio will fly in from London to judge the sausages.

Organisers expect 30 to 40 home cooks to enter the competition, with a short list of six finalists to be chosen for Carluccio to taste their sausages.

Carluccio said: "If I could give the competitors a tip, don't forget the chilli."
