Kids asked to name their WA loves
A colourful sculpture announcing I Love WA will give children the chance to pay homage to their State as part of WA Day celebrations.
Children who visit Perth Cultural Centre this weekend will be encouraged to write on ribbons attached to the artwork, by Willagee artist Bec Massey, what they enjoy most about living in the State.
Celebrate WA has teamed with the WA Museum and Awesome Arts for the project, which is taking submissions online at museum.wa.gov.au/new-museum/i-love-wa.
It took Massey and artist Natalie Nivison about 50 hours to make the cane sculpture - a "rainbow expression of love" to be filled with positive messages.
"I love the big-sky country up north and I love the natural wonders, so they definitely played a big part in inspiring this creation," Massey said.
Awesome Arts chief executive Jenny Simpson said I Love WA would be given to the new museum to become part of the State collection. Charlotte Levine could not decide what she loved more - Rottnest or the Perth Royal Show.
In the end, the nine-year-old said her ribbon would explain why Rottnest was her favourite.
Cuan Coggin, 8, liked the beaches best, while his brother Finn, 10, was a fan of the skate parks.
Perth Cultural Centre will be filled with food, art and music on Monday as part of the celebrations.
