A Perth policeman has a broken leg after falling while chasing a teenager.

The senior constable was patrolling Murray Street in the city centre at about 1am on Sunday when he was alerted that a man was refusing to leave a nightclub.

When he and another officer investigated, the 19-year-old patron allegedly verbally abused them and was issued with a move on notice.

The young man allegedly continued to abuse the officers as he ran away and the senior constable ran after him.

As he caught up with the man, the officer fell over and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance where he receieved treatment for a broken right leg, police said.
