A statue in Fremantle was damaged in a fire this morning.

The "large cardboard structure", part of which is made of timber, is believed to be part of the Fremantle Street Arts Festival.

The fire, which was reported at the intersection of High Street and Queen Street just after 5.30am, is believed to have been deliberately lit.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services communications centre supervisor Brynn Weir said the fire caused an estimated $10,000 damage.
