Lightning victim on life support
A German backbpacker who was struck by lightning was in a critical condition on life support last night.
Stefanie Wiedenroth, 22, was working for a shearing contractor on a farm north of Bruce Rock when she was struck on Friday morning.
A Royal Perth Hospital spokesman said Ms Wiedenroth remained in a critical condition.
Her family have flown from Germany to be at her bedside.
Nine News Perth reported last night that Ms Wiedenroth's parents had made the decision to donate her organs.
Ms Wiedenroth's colleague Darren Major told Seven News he met Ms Wiedenroth's parents yesterday.
"I believe they would like to come and visit where she was staying while they're in Australia," he said.
A sheep farmer, who did not want to be named, was metres away from her when the lightning struck.
He described the strike as vicious.
"It was very traumatic," he said on Friday.
Ms Wiedenroth was struck by lightning in a freak storm just before 9am on Friday.
She was taken to Bruce Rock Hospital and then by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Royal Perth Hospital.
WorkSafe is expected to investigate the incident.
