Update: A man and a woman have been found safe and well next to their bogged four-wheel-drive after they were reported missing from the remote East Kimberley Aboriginal Community of Billiluna.
A land and air search was launched for the 23-year-old woman and 30-year-old man after they failed to show for work this morning at the remote community, about 175km from Halls Creek.
The pair, understood to have not been living in the community long, were located at about 1pm by a spotter plane 15km from the community at Lake Stretch.
“The alarm was raised and we had a plane chartered to go out there anyway so we organised it to do flybys and they were found about an hour ago,” Halls Creek Police Senior Sergeant Ivan Davies said.
“The vehicles appeared to be bogged and the people were standing next to it.”
“We still haven’t spoken to them so we don’t know why they went out but the good thing is they are safe and well.”
Sen. Sgt Davies said a rescue team from Billiluna had been sent a short time ago to retrieve the pair and their vehicle.
He said heavy rain and flooding in the area in recent weeks may have contributed to them getting bogged.
