Nicola never says never to Bieber dream

Waikiki teenager Nicola Wash’s wish to meet Justin Bieber will come true next month.

The words “never say never” became more than just song lyrics for Waikiki teenager Nicola Walsh when she was battling a rare form of cancer.

Three years on, the 14-year-old is looking forward to being the envy of her friends when her wish to meet pop star Justin Bieber becomes a reality next month.

Nicola made the wish to the Mandurah Rockingham Branch of Make-A-Wish Australia while being treated for Ewing sarcoma, a rare cancerous tumour that grows in bones or soft tissue, at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in 2010.

“I thought they forgot me because it was three years ago that I made the wish, but to surprise me like that at school... I was shocked, my heart stopped,” she said.

Doctors discovered the rare tumour on the left side of her head pressing on the sphenoid bone after Nicola had a severe onset of headaches, migraines and vomiting in 2009.

At 10 years old Nicola had an emergency operation to remove the tumour, spending the next year in hospital for chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Mandurah Rockingham Branch of Make-A-Wish Australia vice-president Wendy Mills said it was exciting to finally grant Nicola her wish, after such a long wait for Bieber to visit Australia again.
