WA's biggest Lotto win was equalled for the third time with the Powerball draw last night.
There was only one winner for the $30 million jackpot, the fourth WA division one Powerball winner this year. The others were for $20 million in February and August and $10 million in May.
This year, WA has picked up 71 division one prizes worth a total of $162 million. The other $30 million wins were in 2001 and 2007.
The record has been matched only twice in WA’s history - in 2001 by a southern suburbs couple who won Powerball, and in 2007 by a twentysomething university student who won Oz Lotto.
Lotterywest chief executive Jan Stewart said Thursday night’s win followed a run of big division one Powerball winners this year.
“It started in February with a $20 million win, then a $10 million win in May, another $20 million in August, and to top things off, an incredible $30 million win,” she said.
Ms Stewart said 71 people had collected a division one lotto prize this year, compared with 59 this time last year.
“This year’s division one winners have shared in $162 million worth of prize money,” she said.
The other most recent lotto win was last month, when a Perth family collected the entire $22.2 million division one prize pool in OZ Lotto.
