Fears that Sunday trading would mean empty pews in churches and cut participation in junior sport appear to be unfounded.

Although none of the churches or sports clubs who spoke to _The Weekend West _ had collected attendance figures, anecdotally they said they had not noticed a fall in attendance in the 12 months since Sunday trading was introduced.

A spokesman for the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth said no Perth parishes had suggested Sunday trading was having an impact on Mass attendance.

He said anecdotally, many families would attend Mass together and then go out afterwards together.

Jungle Sports national manager Robbie Figg, who runs junior sports development programs, said the group had not collected statistics but anecdotally numbers had been "pretty stable".
