Up to 900 mourners gathered to remember popular Churchlands Senior High School student Preston Bridge, who died after falling from a balcony at a Scarborough resort.
The auditorium at the high school was packed beyond capacity with his fellow students, teenagers from nearby high schools, family members and friends.
Students from each year group at Churchlands Senior High School, a community member and Preston’s mother Vicki lit candles at the start of the memorial, and the congregation heard from his Year 12 coordinator, the Claremont Football Club and his uncle Ian Bridge.
The school chaplain, Andrew Winton, said it was a day of paradox as the congregation had come together to mourn and celebrate Preston’s life.
Year 12 coordinator Larissa Kool was flanked by Preston’s classmates as she spoke of his charm, ability and his love for people.
Mr Bridge described his nephew as “a hell of a kid” who always had a smart arse comment for his family.
Preston died on February 18 – three days after he fell while attempting to jump from the balcony of the Sunmoon Resort.
It is believed he stayed at the resort with friends after an post-ball party at a Scarborough home.
