A teenager who died after falling 13m from rocks at Serpentine Falls has been identified as a German tourist who was living in Shenton Park.

Ulrich Helmut Ditzel slipped from a cliff edge high above a popular swimming hole about 2.15pm Sunday as he climbed down to a ledge where he was planning to jump into the water.

Friends dragged the 19-year-old to shore unconscious after he fell onto rocks in the water and tried in vain to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived.

Mr Ditzel was rushed to Armadale Hospital but he was pronounced dead just before 6pm.

His family in Germany have been notified of his death.

More than a dozen people have died at the treacherous section of the falls over the past 40 years.

It is believed he had been with two work colleagues when he was fatally injured.
