Nate's mum tells of her blue-eyed boy
The heartbroken mother of a baby tragically killed when a woman lost control of her car and crashed into his nursery last week has described her son as a daddy's boy who would always light up the room.
Eight-month-old Nate Troy Dunbar was sleeping in his cot in his Merriwa home when the woman's Toyota HiLux utility crashed through a fence and into the wall of his nursery on January 25.
Speaking at a candlelight vigil for Nate in Butler last night, Stacy Dunbar told of her son's boundless energy and big personality.
"As you have all seen by the pictures of our beautiful boy, he has so much personality," she said.
"He was such a daddy's boy.
"When Justin would get home from work, he would get so excited his legs would just kick everywhere and he would squeal with delight.
"I think one of the things I will miss most about that beautiful boy is his big blue eyes."
Mrs Dunbar said a second son had passed away just over two years ago and "we take some comfort in knowing that Chase will be waiting for Nate at heaven's gate".
She, her husband Justin and son Kai were among hundreds of people who lit a candle for Nate as the sun set in Kingsbridge Park.
The event was organised by two strangers to the Dunbar family, Tamika Hinkley and Kelly Storer, who wanted to raise money for them after hearing about the tragedy.
The night ended with the release of two white doves and an impassioned plea from Mrs Dunbar and her family for people to take care on the roads.
"The police and the law can only do so much to protect us, the rest is up to us," she said.
"I never ever want to see anything like this happen again, and only we have the power to do that."
Nate's aunty, Amber-Jade Sanderson, said the family was overwhelmed by the support. "So many people have come out to show their support for a family going through a really difficult time," she said.
"It's this kind of support that will help them through this tough time."
A Quinns Rocks woman has been charged over the crash and will appear in Joondalup Magistrate's Court this month.
