Kitten thrown from car in SW
The RSPCA has called for witnesses after a kitten was thrown from a car in Brunswick on Australia Day.
The four-week-old kitten broke its hind leg, fractured a front leg after being thrown from a hatchback vehicle on Heppinstone Road at noon. The kitten's jaw and another leg were also injured.
The kitten is being treated by Brunswick Veterinary staff who named the kitten 'Aussie' because it was injured on Australia Day and because of its ability to battle its injuries. The staff are also covering the costs of its treatment.
RSPCA chief executive David van Ooran said the offenders could face fines up to $50,000 and and five years' imprisonment.
"This is a despicable act of cruelty," Mr van Ooran said.
This incident is the second case of animal cruelty in the South West in less than three weeks. Earlier this month, a cat was shot with an arrow in Eaton, near Bunbury.
Witnesses are asked to contact the RSPCA's cruelty hotline on 1300 278 3589. The veterinary staff are also looking for a home for the kitten.
