A smoke alert has been issued for motorists travelling on Farrington Road in Murdoch.

A bushfire started between the street and Allendale Entrance and although there is not threat to homes or lives, DFES say that there is a lot of smoke in the area.

They said that anyone travelling along Farrington Road and Kwinana Freeway should take caution as there are areas of low visibility.

DFES said it is advised that those in the area drive slowly and carefully with headlights on, and look out for emergency services personnel.

Twenty-five Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters are at the scene and the Farrington Road westbound lanes have been closed.
