The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of WA this afternoon and evening.

Areas from Ravensthorpe to Youanmi to Mt Augustus to Three Rivers to Leonora and Israelite Bay are likely to be affected.

This includes people in or near Esperance, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra.

Residents are being told to prepare for damaging winds, hail, heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging people to weigh down loose objects, prepare an emergency kit, keep animals in a safe place and move vehicles undercover.
