Police are investigating a fire on a boat parked outside of a house in St James this morning.

A spokesman said that about 2.20am the Upton Street homeowner heard a noise and went outside to find his boat alight.

Firefighters were called at 2.24am and had the blaze was extinguished by 2.41am.

The fire caused $41,000 in damage to the seven-metre pleasure craft.
