A 26-year-old who went to sleep in a Thornlie carpark after a long drive to Perth from the country was pepper sprayed and robbed overnight.

The man was sleeping in his Holden Commodore in a carpark on Berehaven Avenue when he was woken by the sound of smashing glass about 3.20am.

An unknown number of male offenders, who had smashed the front windows of his car, then reached in to take his belongings.

When the victim tried to fend off the men he was pepper sprayed and his wallet was stolen.

Nearby residents took the 26-year-old to Armadale Hospital, where he received treatment for a reaction to the pepper spray.
