With WA's new entertainment complex about to open, Perth artist Jon Tarry is offering a rare insight into the demolition of its predecessor.

Tarry was allowed inside the Perth Entertainment Centre to document its final months.

As he posted images online during the six-month demolition, Tarry was flooded with 120,000 responses from people with almost 30 years of memories of the venue.

"Many people had a story about their first concerts, the bands that influenced them and dates that marked their lives," Tarry said.

His videos, photographs and artworks feature in the exhibition In My Beginning is My End, which looks at demolition and construction through the Entertainment Centre and the new Perth Arena.

Perth Arena designs, plans, computer images and other stepping stones are also on display.

The exhibition is in business hours this month at the Australian Urban Design Research Centre, 1002 Hay Street, Perth. Stephen Bevis
