Wyllie forges friendship with crooner
Rhonda Wyllie and Tom Jones.

One of Perth's wealthiest women has forged an unlikely friendship with one of the world's most famous singers.

Since meeting over two years ago, WA businesswoman and socialite Rhonda Wyllie has become good friends with Welsh crooner and heart-throb Tom Jones.

The pair met while Jones, 72, was in Perth for a concert at Sandalford Wines in the Swan Valley in March 2010.

"It is my son Luke who flies him and that is how I met him originally because he was in Perth and he was bored and I took him out on (her yacht) Magical Miss," Mrs Wyllie said.

"He is just the nicest man, very down to earth and very interested in what other people are doing rather than talking about himself."

Since then, the What's New Pussycat? singer has been aboard Mrs Wyllie's other luxury yacht Willpower during her many visits to Europe, where she has also introduced Jones to some of Perth's high- profile identities including Gina Rinehart.

"She thought he was charming," Mrs Wyllie said.

When holidaying in Antibes, France, last month, Mrs Wyllie, 56, the widow of WA property tycoon Bill Wyllie, and Perth friends, including Denise and Nigel Satterley, rocked out at Jones' concert at the Jazz a Juan festival.
