Savvy Embley style a sure winner

Andrew Embley's ultra-modern home is a testament to the stylish taste of the West Coast Eagle and his design-savvy wife Rayne.

After buying the 1904 bungalow as an investment several years ago, the couple decided they would redesign the interior to suit their lifestyle before moving in.

"We wanted to have it like we wanted it," Embley said. "We loved the old-style character of the facade so we left that but inside we just gutted the whole place."

Embley said credit for the design went to his wife, who managed the renovation while working as a finance broker and pregnant with their first child Autumn, who turns three in September.

An exclusive peek inside the Swanbourne home yesterday showed the care and thought that went into the remodelling.

Outside, the three-bedroom home retains its old-world charm but inside it is contemporary, light-filled and spacious.

It also has a swimming pool and big entertaining deck with fully-equipped outdoor kitchen that extends the open-plan kitchen- living-dining room.

Better Homes and Gardens presenter Johanna Griggs also toured the home, which will feature on the Channel 7 lifestyle show.

"People often have a perception of what sports people are like but they don't realise that they have the same issues as everyone else," Griggs said.

"To hear their passion about building gives them a completely new dimension."

A shoulder injury has sidelined Embley since April so the 31-year-old has found time to indulge in his love of cooking.

This includes visits to Claremont restaurant Beluga, which he co-owns with teammate Dean Cox.
