Cate Blanchett has led the Aussie charge at this year's Oscar nominations.

The 'Blue Jasmine' actress is favourite to take home Hollywood's top honour after her Golden Globe win.

Mike Amor reports.

The most famous actors in Hollywood were hoping Aussie star Liam Hemsworth was about to read out their names.

For best performance by an actress in a leading role, the nominees are Cate Blanchett in 'Blue Jasmine'.



With her sixth nomination, Cate Blanchett is now hot favourite to become the first Australian actress to win two Oscars.

It must've been a thrill to announce Cate's name?

and sci-fi movie 'Gravity' received 10 nominations just ahead of '12 Years a Slave' with nine.

'12 Years a Slave' and 'Gravity' are the two neck and neck.

'12 Years a Slave' has a little more conversation behind it but I think those two, all along, have been the frontrunners and I think they still are.

At least five Aussies have been nominated, including David Clayton for visual effects on 'The Hobbit'.

Director Baz Luhrmann's wife Catherine Martin has been nominated twice for 'The Great Gatsby', including Costume Design but she'll be up against another Aussie, Michael Wilkinson, Australia has a fine tradition of training its actors and directors and behind-the-scenes people, has a great pride, # I walk to the sound of my own drum.



# Comedian Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars on March 3.
