Rotto winter campaign a winner

Rottnest has secured WA's only success at Australia's prestigious annual tourism awards night, the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, earning a top gong for its marketing campaign to attract visitors to the island during winter.

It is the second consecutive year that WA has won just one of the 27 categories.

The "More Rottnest" campaign was developed by Fremantle marketing company Detail Marketing Communications.

Detail principal Claire McGowan said last year the campaign had been based on people's deep love of Rottnest.

Silver awards were presented to Broome's Eco Beach in the unique accommodation category, the Berkeley River Lodge for new tourism development and the Augusta- Margaret River Tourism Information Centre for visitor information and services.

A bronze award went to Out of Sight tours in Denmark.
