Online accommodation distribution platform SiteMinder has reported a year-on-year doubling of booking revenue which the company has attributed to a worldwide surge in online hotel bookings and a rapidly expanding property base.
The total booking revenue delivered to hotel customers' using the platform was just under $2 billion in the 12 months to June 30 2012 and was generated by a record 5.7 million hotel bookings. The new record resulted in a rise in the average amount for each booking to $345.
SiteMinder general manager for sales and marketing David Williams said the revenue growth was a result of an increase in the number of hotels using SiteMinder as a booking platform.
"With customers around the world booking more rooms online than ever before, more hotels are turning to effective technologies like SiteMinder to maximise revenue from this increasingly important market," he said.
The SiteMinder revenue increase has also been attributed to an increase in the number of accommodation companies integrating their Property Management Systems (PMSs) to SiteMinder's Channel Manager. The PMS creates an automatic two-way booking highway for properties and online booking channels.
Mr Williams said hotel clients were also benefiting from SiteMinder's increased distribution network and a growth in the number of international consumers.
