App to promote travel to Greece

London based global telecom company Vodaphone has collaborated with the Greek National Tourism Organisation to produce a smartphone application to promote Greece as an appealing travel destination for its millions of global customers.

Also working with the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels the Vodaphone Explore Greece app will make Greek tourism information easier to access and is expected to have a vastly positive influence on Greece's tourism product.

CEO of Vodaphone Greece Glafkos Persianis said the app would offer exposure needed for Greek tourism. "The Vodaphone Explore Greece application enables us to talk about Greece; to highlight our country's unique natural beauty, our culture and high level of services available. Through our technology and international presence, we are contributing to the efforts underway to furthering the development of our country," he said.

Secretary General of the Greek Tourism Organisation George Koletsos said the app would facilitate marketing and promotion of Greek tourism. "Our cooperation with Vodafone is a pioneering move aimed at the targeted marketing and promotion of the Greek tourism product. Our strategy and objective is to create a dynamic network of partnerships that will maximize the promotion of Greek tourism with zero cost to the public service. This public-private partnership represents an innovative approach whose goal is to support the national effort, undertaken by all, to strengthen the tourism industry and maximize, as a result, the social and economic benefits," he said.

The new app is available in Greek and English and provides information for travellers already in Greece and those planning a trip. The original content is heightened by the regularly updated information and audiovisual content about accommodation, events, food, nightlife, museums and archaeological sites. Featuring interactive maps the Explore Greece app will lead visitors to hidden museums, archaeological sites and must see areas of natural beauty.

The app features 50 000 different attractions and is available for all Android smartphone users, including those not connected with Vodaphone.
