Sandwich rage forces emergency landing

A violent confrontation between a passenger and a flight attendant has forced a plane to make an emergency landing – all because of sandwich.

The easyJet A320 en route from Geneva to Kosovo was diverted to Rome on Tuesday when a passenger punched a flight attendant in the face, allegedly because he was tired of waiting for his food to arrive.

Swiss news site 20 Minutes said the attack stunned the flight attendant.

“I was totally shocked,” she told the website.

“I can’t understand how anyone could react so violently over a sandwich.”

A witness told the Mail Online the man flew into a rage, shouting: “I’ve been waiting for hours, I’m hungry.”

According to the witness the attendant was knocked to the ground where the man continued his assault until other passengers stepped in to restrain him.

The attendant reportedly had her glasses broken and required medical attention.

A spokesperson for EasyJet told The Independent Italian police met the aircraft at Rome where the passenger was arrested.

“easyJet can confirm that flight EZS1483 from Geneva to Pristina on 31 March diverted to Rome as a result of a passenger onboard behaving in a disruptive manner,” they said.

“The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority.”

There were 177 passengers and six crew members onboard flight EZS1483 when the incident occurred.
