Online bookings, smartphone cameras and travel blogs are all factors which have swiftly converted the travel industry to one which makes good use of 21st century technology.

A recent survey from TrueLocal showed 75 per cent of respondents preferred to use mobile phone cameras over other recording devices. Nearly two thirds of all demographics also preferred their mobile phones for video and image recording while on holiday. The survey is part of the new TrueLocal campaign ‘Share Thy Local’ promoting some of Australia’s best kept secrets using the TrueLocal iPhone App.

TrueLocal community manager Shae Marlow said travel technology was changing the travel industry. “The younger generation is definitely taking advantage of mobile phone technology and the use of travel blogs and apps, and we see this having a flow-on affect on travel trends. We’re seeing more and more cases where young people take photos with their camera phones while travelling and post these on social media sites, encouraging others to explore the same destinations. TrueLocal sees the value in this kind of promotion of local destinations and Australia’s best kept secrets and has incorporated this into its new campaign, ‘Share Thy Local,” she said.

The campaign is encouraging travellers to share photos of their favourite Australian bar, restaurant, hotspot or hide out on the TrueLocal App.

Ms Marlow said the campaign is about encouraging people to discover new attractions or locations. “We want to encourage Australians to take time out to explore Australia and the adventures that can be uncovered by sharing their favourite locals through their love for technology, and that’s what ‘Share Thy Local’ is all about,” she said.
