Inexperienced forwards Luke Meadows and Max Alexander provided West Perth fans with hope for the future in their side’s scrappy nine-point win over Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium today.

Meadows kicked three goals and Alexander two as the Falcons edged ahead of their opponents in the second half to win, 9.14 (68) to 8.11 (59).

The usual suspects were good for West Perth in the middle of the ground, with Rohan Kerr (33 possessions), Aaron Black (32), Shane Nelson (26) and Matt Guadagnin (25) all playing well.

Dockers midfielders Anthony Morabito (26 possessions), Jacob Ballard (25) and Sam Menegola (20) were all prominent for Peel, while teenager Michael Apeness (15 possessions, two goals) starred in attack for the first three quarters.

Veteran Brendon Jones (24 disposals) was at his busy best in the engine room.

Scores were level at quarter-time and half-time as neither side was able to assert its authority.

Apeness kicked the first goal of the second half before West Perth quickly turned the game around, kicking the next four goals to take the lead.

Tensions boiled over on the three-quarter time siren when Michael Wood shoved Steve Potente across the boundary line.

Several Falcons players took exception to Wood’s push and an all-in melee quickly developed.

There were no reports out of the incident, but footage will no doubt be assessed by WAFL officials.

Peel got within a kick when Michael Wood kicked the opening goal of the final term but couldn’t get their noses in front.

Earlier in the day, West Perth won both the reserves (75 points) and colts (15) games.
