Man of many hats earns honour

Frank Cooper has worn many hats in his lifetime and it is the way the WA Football Commission chairman likes it.

Mr Cooper, who has "dipped his toe" into everything from medical research and arts and culture to financial management, child health and sport, said the parts of his career he had enjoyed the most involved trying something new.

"What has been, in some ways, the most rewarding have been those things where I've had absolutely no idea about it before I got involved," he said.

"For example, getting involved in the opera and arts. I grew up in the country where all you did was play football and tennis and muck around with sport."

Mr Cooper said it felt wonderful to be one of four West Australians appointed an Officer in the general division of the Order of Australia.

"When you work in the community, you see so many people who do wonderful things and to think that someone has chosen to nominate you feels delightful," he said.
