Lions wants Jacky to return
Jarrhan Jacky is set to return to his original club Subiaco if the Lions and Peel can agree on a suitable transfer fee.
The Thunder want $30,000 for a player who was in just his second match for the club last year when he ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament.
The 25-year-old has not played since and is not likely to be fit to appear in league ranks until at least midway through the season.
But Subiaco are eager to further bolster their depth after an off-season recruiting spree that netted de-listed Gold Coast midfielder Kyal Horsley, Swan Districts duo Shaun Hildebrandt and Wayde Twomey, West Perth ruckman Frank Stockley and Victorian pair Lachlan Delahunty and Matt Boland.
The Lions, who finished seventh last year, have made a blistering start to 2014.
They have won their opening four matches to sit on top of the ladder and look on track to return to the finals for the first time since 2011.
Subiaco chief executive Peter Capes confirmed negotiations with Peel were under way, but a Jacky resolution was not imminent.
"Jarrhan will not be fit to play for some while still so there is no urgency at the moment," Capes said.
"We have talked to him and we are pretty sure that if he plays anywhere this year it will be with Subiaco.
"We are doing our due diligence with a medical assessment and talking to Peel, but it has not gone any further than that."
Jacky played three matches for Adelaide after being taken with the 30th selection overall in the 2007 national draft. He spent three seasons with the Crows after being drafted as a Subiaco colts player, but then joined Swan Districts in 2011 as the reigning WAFL premiers added six de-listed AFL players to their squad.
Jacky played 32 games for Swans in two seasons before following assistant coach Cam Shepherd to Peel, where he broke down in round two.
He will be valued at one point if he returns to Subiaco.
Jacky is likely to receive match payments only to ensure the Lions do not breach the WAFL salary cap of $280,000 per team.
Subiaco are estimated to have spent about $90,000 on transfer fees this season.
That sum is not included in the salary cap.
