Dockers shock as Sylvia faces month-long ban
Fremantle utility Colin Sylvia has been charged with a level four rough conduct offence in the WAFL that could see him suspended for up to a month.
The Dockers are considering the WAFL’s offer of a multiple-week suspension over the incident in the Peel-Subiaco match at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.
They may decide to defend the matter at the WAFL Tribunal tomorrow night.
Sylvia, who was recruited from Melbourne this year, was playing for the Dockers-aligned team against Subiaco.
He was charged by the WAFL this morning over his contact with Subiaco’s Brett Mahoney.
Mahoney was paid a free-kick for the incident but The West Australian was told after the match that no report had been laid.
However, a notice of investigation was lodged after the match and the charge was laid after an assessment of the down-the-ground vision from the game.
Sylvia has been offered a suspension by the WAFL’s report review panel but could risk a greater penalty if he takes the matter to the WAFL Tribunal.
The WAFL uses the AFL Tribunal demerit points system as a guide but is not bound by the rigid approach applied by the national league.
