Malaxos' warning for star recruits

Malaxos' warning for star recruits

East Fremantle coach Steve Malaxos has warned the flood of former AFL players returning to State ranks this season to disres-pect the WAFL at their own peril.

Fourteen players headlined by de-listed Collingwood forward Andrew Krakouer have returned to WAFL clubs for 2014 and Malaxos said history showed not all of them would make the transition successfully.

The Sharks have gained Brock O'Brien, Jamie McNamara, Cameron Eardley and Bradd Dalziell - more former AFL players than any other club.

"A few of them fall into the trap of thinking it's a lesser competition and don't put in the training and take extra liberties with their preparation," Malaxos said.

"By the middle of the year they're struggling.

"But if they approach it the right way and get the balance in their life sorted and are still diligent with their training, they should play well."

Former Collingwood player Leon Davis and Kyle Reimers (Essendon) were high-profile recruits who failed to match on-field expectations in recent seasons.
