Van Berlo commits to Falcons
Discarded Fremantle midfielder Jay van Berlo has signed a two-year deal with his original club, West Perth.
Van Berlo played 32 AFL games with the Dockers after being recruited via the rookie draft in 2008.
A Whitford product, he progressed through the grades at West Perth and won the Breckler Medal as the club's best and fairest in 2008.
Pigeon-holed as a defender or run-with player, van Berlo spent time working on winning his own ball in the midfield for the Falcons last season when left out of the Fremantle team.
He will team up with younger brother Mitch at Arena Joondalup next year.
"Jay will give us experience, strength, leadership and direction," West Perth chief executive Gerry O'Dea said.
"He is only just 24 and is in the prime of his footy career. With over 50 WAFL games under his belt already, he has plenty of great football ahead of him."
West Perth are still chasing former AFL players Mark Seaby and Andrew Strijk, and have added Victorian recruits Rohan Kerr and Shaun Marusic to their senior list for the 2013 season.
James Embley has also signed for the Falcons after leaving Swan Districts.
West Perth lost Brent LeCras, Dustin Burns and Joel Rice to retirement at the end of the 2012 season.
