Swans fined $25,000 for salary cap breaches

Swan Districts have been fined $25,000 for salary cap breaches during the 2011 WAFL season.

The West Australian Football Commission determined the penalty following a seven-month investigation into the club's total player payments.

In a statement, the WAFC said it "recognises the cooperation of Swan Districts Football Club and CEO Tom Bottrell throughout the review process, which has concluded that the allowable Salary Cap limit was not exceeded in 2011.

"However, the review determined that a number of declaration errors were made and as a result Swan Districts Football Club will be fined the maximum of $25,000 permitted under the Salary Cap Rules.

"The maximum penalty is deemed appropriate in this case due to the number and nature of the declaration errors and the WAFC's expectation that player payments must be correctly recorded by all clubs."

The independent WAFC won't reveal the details of the breaches and won't comment further on the issue.
