Messi blasts penalty over the bar in Copa America final

Lionel Messi did the unthinkable in the Copa America final, blasting his penalty kick in the shootout straight over the bar and into the stands.

After Chile's Arturo Vidal had his penalty saved, Messi stepped up to take Argentina's first attempt.

HIs teammates and the whole country would have been full of confidence seeing their talisman approach the penalty spot, but that's when it all went south as he completely overcooked it, putting Chile right back in the contest.

Francisco Silva stepped up to seal Chile's 4-2 victory and condemn Argentina to yet another final defeat.

Argentina has now lost seven straight major tournament finals since 1993 and although they missed another penalty in the shootout, it will be Messi's miss that everyone will be talking about.

Naturally the internet was instantly unforgiving, with the roasting in full flight.
