Mehmet has score on the board

Perth Glory striker Billy Mehmet knows his place in the starting line-up lies in the hands of coach Ian Ferguson but feels he has put his best foot forward since replacing Shane Smeltz early this season.

Mehmet has started the past four games while Smeltz has been sidelined by a hamstring injury and scored two of Glory's seven goals this season, including the winner against Brisbane as a substitute in round one.

The big striker had been prepared for a three-way battle for two spots with Smeltz and Steve McGarry this year.

Smeltz has returned to training and comes into consideration for Sunday's game against Adelaide.

Attacking midfielder Nick Ward gave Ferguson another selection headache with a goal in his first start of the season last week.

Mehmet said he felt he had played well enough in the win over the Newcastle Jets to keep his place in the team but said the decision rested with Ferguson.

"I just have to get on with it and work hard and I think I've done that," Mehmet said.

"All I can do is just do what I've done and keep scoring goals."

Glory will be looking for a breakthrough win away from home on Sunday after two losses on road trips, against Central Coast and Sydney, so far this season.
