Force influx shores up attitudes for new season

The influx of new signings at the Western Force has been a timely reminder to the existing players, according to Patrick Dellit.

Coach Michael Foley has brought in 12 new faces for the 2014 Super Season, seven of them in the back line, cutting off any hint of complacency.

"This year there have been some guys come in and have basically said: 'We're pushing to earn that spot'," Dellit said.

"The guys that have been here have been pretty shaken up.

"Training has been a big step up from last year."

Dellit, 27, who is heading into his fourth Super Rugby season, started 13 of his 14 appearances in the No.14 jumper and came off the bench on to the right wing in the other match last season.

"I did enjoy last year, I had a great time there, absolutely," he said.

"I'd love to put my hand up but there are some pretty hungry guys in this squad."

Back-line combinations are still in the mix and while Dellit has trained in various roles he will again be hoping to nail down the right wing where he scored three tries last year.

"We are starting to see a few combinations forming but they keep getting mixed up and keep changing," he said.

The final line-up is likely to become clearer in the next fortnight when the Force play trial matches against Samoa A and Argentina Pampas.
