Frontrunner blows gold medal with 'ridiculous tactics'

Kenyan runner Asbel Kiprop has been criticised for his questionable tactics, blowing a golden chance in the men's 1500m final.

Kiprop stormed to the lead in the final lap but inexplicably eased off, fading badly down the straight to miss the medals completely.

Commentators Tamsin Lewis and Bruce McAvaney were highly critical of the questionable tactics.

"It was ridiculous and that's why he tired so much", said Lewis.

"It doesn't suit beautiful, free-flowing movers."

Australian Ryan Gregson finished ninth, clocking a time of three minutes 51.39 seconds.

The gold went to American Matthew Centrowicz in 3:50.00 ahead of Algerian Taoufik Makhloufi and New Zealander Nick Willis.
